Just after 11:00pm on Friday February 27, Linfield Fire Company's utility truck was dispatched on a second alarm assignment to assist the Sanatoga Fire Company in Lower Pottsgrove Township at the 422 Diner on Industrial Highway. Minutes later the incident response from Station 51 was upgraded to include Tanker 51 as the first in companies were having difficulties with water supply and needed a secondary source of water.

Utility 51 was used at the incident scene to provide lighting and for the refilling of firefighter self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) bottles. Upon arrival Utility 51 went in service with the light tower providing illumination to the area, which would be used by EMS units for firefighter rehabilitation. Once lighting had been established, firefighters re-filled firefighter air tanks at the scene.

Meanwhile Tanker 51 shuttled and fed water to the aerial master streams located on top of the ladder trucks that knocked down a bulk of the fire.

Six firefighters worked at the scene for just over four hours. There were additional Linfield firefighters standing by at the Linfield firehouse in the event that another emergency call came in. A total of 10 firefighters were on duty for over four hours.

Volunteers staff station during blizzard

Firefighters from the Linfield Fire Company provided staffing during the blizzard which occurred on February 9th and 10th. Fourteen members covered the station at various times from the onset of the first flake on the night of Tuesday the 9th through Thursday morning the 11th. During that time the station was dispatched to three motor vehicle accidents, two assists to E.M.S, and one fire police assist to local police with traffic control at a downed tree.

The purpose of sleeping in at station during these storms is to ensure staffing on apparatus during emergencies which occur during the inclement weather and hazardous road condition. This eliminates waiting for personnel to arrive from their homes or places of employment to staff apparatus which dramatically, increase our ability to provide timely help to the residents of the township.

Linfield Fire Company would like to remind you that you can help us out in storms like this by clearing the snow from your nearby fire hydrants. We need at least three feet clearance around all sides of a hydrant to be used efficiently. If there isn't a hydrant on your property, check to see where the nearest one to your house is and work with your neighbors to clear out hydrants in your neighborhood.
