Why did they do that?

Roof VentilationIt’s a question asked often when someone looks at the firefighters on the roof of a house, “why did they do that?” Well, it’s rather simple. Ventilation is a technique used to relieve smoke and heat from a burning structure. No, we’re not just randomly chopping holes in your roof, but a strategically placed hole as close to the fire as possible will help to clear out the smoke and heat, making the fire inside much easier to fight.

On Monday, June 21st , Firefighters practiced this technique on one of the two houses that will demolished to make way for the new Sanatoga Springs Shopping Center. We often rely on the donation of acquired structures to practice certain skills not easily duplicated. A special thanks goes out to O'Neill Properties Group for allowing us the opportunity to train at these structures.

If anyone has other questions about what we do, or would like more information on what you can do to be a part of the action, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. As March came to an end, the Linfield Fire Company experienced one of the highest calls volumes ever. Members of Station 51 ran 45 calls of various types. Including building fires, water rescues, traffic details, and EMS assists. Fire fighters and fire police were in service for a total of 335 man hours in the month of March, which doesn’t include various training exercises. Thanks to everyone that helped out.

As April begins there is no shortage of things to do. April 1st through the 3rd was our annual Easter Flower sale. And on April 3rd, we hope you had had a chance to visit with the Easter Bunny at our annual egg hunt.

Join us May 9th for the Mothers Day Breakfast!

Anyone out there that may be curious about joining?
